Dear Friend of the Farm
Our farmer has made some sums and it turns out we’re going to need a whole lot of compost! (Okay, we already knew that, but now it’s official.)
So…we are looking for someone to take charge of our composting project. In terms of residents, this will involve making sure everyone who has ordered a bokashi starter kit has received it and is comfortable using it, and knows who to talk to if they have any issues. As new people join the bokashi brigade, you’ll help them get their first bucket and bokashi and learn the ropes. In terms of local restaurants, it will involve asking them for their kitchen waste, explaining to them how bokashi works, and working out how to get their waste to our farm. They’ll need to buy bokashi (to treat their kitchen waste) and big buckets from us, and commit to sprinkling the bokashi onto each layer of waste in the buckets, and sealing the buckets.
It won’t be anything like a full-time job, and we have the buckets and bokashi in hand, but there’s some important groundwork still to be done. This is really important, hands-on, get-to-know-you-neighbours, at-the-coal-face volunteer work that will be central to diverting tonnes of waste from landfills and into the healthy soil that will make our farm so fertile.
WHO’S KEEN?
Please drop me a line so we can chat about how to get this ball rolling!(Oh, and if you have no idea what I’m talking about, a little light reading for you :))
