Historical information needed to unearth a path to the past.
One of the farm’s volunteers and education program coordinators, Lizza Littlewort, is focussing her Masters degree dissertation on the history of the farm.
She would be grateful for any references, memories or even urban myths about the farm, throughout its three hundred year history, which could help in the reconstruction of an idea of what life on the farm may have been like in past eras. This would include not only the traditional history of the owners, but also the more erased and fragile histories of the farm’s many hundreds of slaves.
Clearing the Homestead Path
As part of the farm construction cleanup, Lizza spent a week clearing the original 300 year-old Cape Dutch path (actual, not metaphorical) in the Homestead Park. The path had become partially buried under decades of soil and vegetation which amounted to 13 wheelbarrows cleared.
